Loving Kindness Practice

When I first tried the exercise of Loving Kindness practice, I tried it before going to bed and it put me asleep before it was finished. I tried it again this morning and I found it difficult to turn off my mind so it was hard to focus on the exercise. As it went on I felt that I was trying to hard focus.  Maybe it is because I have a lot to do this week.   I feel that I give loving and kindness to others, my problem is having loving and kindness for myself.  This is something that I am working on though.  I think this exercise will help and I will definitely do it again. It says to continue doing this exercise twice a day for a week, so I will try that.  It says that in order to have loving and kindness for others you have to have loving and kindness for yourself first.  I also believe in this and I think with doing this exercise twice daily I will be more positive and also have more positive energy towards others.  I do recommend this exercise for others. The exercise is longer than the other relaxation exercises so I would recommend that you have 30 minutes to just relax and turn off your mind before doing it.  Maybe after I’ve done it a couple times it will be easier to turn off my mind and have better results.

  1. Hi Ashley,
Extending loving-kindness to myself is also something I struggle with! I have been working on it though, and with practice it does get easier, you just begin to not be so hard on yourself as you might have been before, and I consider that a positive move!

  2. HI Ashley,

That is wonderful that you plan to incorporate the exercise into your life at least twice a day! I was thinking I would do the same thing because I need to extend love to myself, but also to others. I have beome very distand and emotionless over the years and I want to reverse that, this exercise might be just what I need. I hope you can find the time to do the exercise so that you can achieve the results you have been looking for, good luck and great job!

    1. LaMargaret,
I hope I will be able to take the time in the day for myself and do the exercises. I hope this is what you need to love yourself and others also.

  3. Hi Ashley,
It seems so easy to have loving kindness towards other, yet when it comes to ourselves it almost seems the impossible. It does take time but it does come to fruition and when it does, its freedom all the way!
